When you are in a public place and you would like to approach someone about becoming a new customer or sharing the opportunity, what types of ways are there to get over the hesitation of approaching a total stranger?

I try to start some small chit chat while in the line at checkout. If you are in line and you notice someone that looks rushed during lunch hour or in the store right after work.....bring up how much you love coming to the store whenever you want because you work from home. Or, if you see like products in thier cart like you carry say..."oh, I see you like (use, ect) too...have you ever tried (your brand, product ect). This works great for me in the home frangrance isle Wink.
Look for people that just look frustrated....most are because thier time is so limited. Ask them if they are willing to look at another option when it comes to making money.
Hope these ideas help.

I always carry scent samples in my purse (a diaper bag at the moment). I have gotten pretty good at starting small talk with people... When it is time for one of us to leave I just give them a sample and tell them I hope it brightens their day and that I LOVE sharing with everyone. I have gained several customers and a few hostesses just doing this one simple, non threatening, no pressure approach.

I have a really pretty pin, it says BUSINESS IS GREAT!   People look at it all the time.. It is a great conversation opener.

I have also looked at people and apologized and told them they looked familiar.  Have you been to one of my PartyLite shows?  Then I have another opening.

I am still VERY uncomfortable with my approach.... Virtual People are easy... Live flesh and blood a whole different ball of wax (no pun) Wink

I have found that if they have young ones approach, is ohh how cute age about almost 2yrs etc..
Then have little combo and slip the comversation on what ever you are doing and let them know how wonderful it is and then hand them out a business card..
